Lazy Days of Summer, Lazy Man’s Tip #2: Use Picniche.com to Determine What Sells
**********************
Dear Reader,
The Lazy Man stock photographer shoots fewer photos and yet sells more...
How can this be, you ask?
It’s simple. After reading our Lazy Man’s Guide to Stock Photography, the Lazy Man knows what sells and what doesn’t. And he spends more time shooting what sells and less on what doesn’t.
Today’s tip describes a handy resource he uses to help determine what’s selling and what he should shoot next...
LAZY MAN’S TIP#2: Let Picniche.com do the hard work for you
Here’s how: Go to Picniche.com and type in any image subject. I tried the words “tourist family Paris,” since Shelly took photos of my family under the Eiffel Tower this year and will likely try to sell them as stock.
Then, hit “Analyse” and Picniche connects to microstock agencies to find out how many photos with those keywords exist, how many people search for them, and how many are bought. Then it gives your subject a rating.
* Under 10 is bad
* 10 to 50 is ok
* 50 to 100 is good
* Over 100 is a niche -- or very good
“Tourist family Paris” got a rating of 527 -- so that photo should do very well for Shelly.
Type in a few photo subjects you have in mind before you go out to shoot... and focus on the photos that’ll sell.
EXTRA-LAZY TIP: Picniche.com will also give you a good list of stock photo keywords to add to your photograph whenever you search for a subject... so you’re being doubly lazy and doubly effective when you use it. It’s the ultimate Lazy Man’s resource. (And it’s free so give it a try.)
