THE MAY PHOTO CHALLENGE THEME: ALL THINGS EDIBLE
By Shelly Perry in Portland, OR

Paris -- the site for our upcoming photography and travel writing workshops -- makes me think about decadent chocolates, unusual cheeses, croissants, wine, and wonderful street cafes serving rich coffee (my favorite).

Since food is on my mind... I challenge you to turn your camera toward exactly that this month. And when I say food, I mean ALL things food -- the growing, preparing, and presentation of it... morsels on your plate... restaurants and bars that serve it... and anything else you can think of.

To my mind, a farmer tilling his field illustrates food as much as a child with chocolate on her face does.

You could take pictures of people drinking coffee at a neighborhood coffee shop or focus on solo shots of hors d'oeuvres at a party.  Even cooking and eating utensils are fair game.

Remember -- good lighting and good composition are key.

ANNOUNCING: AWAI's New Photo Tip Cards

Sunsets, beaches, people, sports, waterfalls -- whatever you're shooting -- our Photo Tip Cards tell you the best way to do it.

Shooting a sunset? Pull out the sunset card. Taking photos at night? Grab the night card. Going to your kid's soccer game? Pick up the sports card.

Bundled as a set of 12, these Photo Tip Cards are easy-to-use... they slide conveniently into your back pocket (don't worry: the type is large enough to read!)... and they're laminated, so they won't disintegrate in a rain storm or fade in the sun.
