AS GOOD AS GOLD
By Shelly Perry in Portland, OR

In Bangkok, Thailand, a 46-meter-long golden Buddha reclines in a temple... Versailles palace in France is adorned throughout with gold-leaf... Egyptians encased their mummies in shining golden funeral masks... medieval European nobility ate gold flakes in their food... and today, at the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C., people line up to ogle precious golden jewelry behind thick glass.

Since the beginning of recorded history, and presumably beyond, we are head-over-heels in love with gold.  A symbol of wealth, a currency, a sparkling adornment... gold is everywhere.

And this season is filled with it.  Like the Thanksgiving turkey coming out of the oven perfectly golden brown... the golden champagne shimmering in our glasses.... and autumn leaves changing from green to gold.  Soon, we’ll be hanging golden tinsel on the hearth and tree, too.

So this month’s Photo Challenge theme is dedicated to all things gold.

Theme-fitting photos can include:

-- Riches, money, or currency themes
-- Autumn leaves changing to golden colors
-- Athletes competing for gold
-- Gold decorations and jewelry in other cultures
-- Golden-colored food and drinks
-- Decorations for the holiday seasons
-- And anything else that you associate with gold

Submissions for November’s Photo Challenge are due by 8:00 a.m. EST on Monday, November 24.  You can submit your photos here.

Details about contest guidelines are here.
