Your photo assignment for this weekend...
Dear Reader,
I have a photo assignment for you this weekend...
I want you to take THREE photos that show me what kind of photographer you are. They can be pictures of your friends or family... pictures of your cat... pictures of your neighborhood... pictures of something in your backyard.
It doesn’t matter what’s in your pictures. This photo assignment is to show me what kind of photographer you are. And maybe even what kinds of photos you’d be interested in selling.
Next week, I’ll send you instructions for sending me your pictures so I can review them with you -- find your strengths and weaknesses and maybe help you decide where best to sell the kinds of photos you like to take. I’ll also help you hand-pick a few places to get started so you’re not out there guessing.
We’re going to do this with all our attendees at our Ultimate Money-Making Photography Workshop coming up in April in Nashville.
This year, I’m going to ask them to submit three photos for review before they arrive. Then, when they get there, we’re going to sit down and go over them so we can custom tailor the schedule to their needs. We’ll be able to say things like, “Your composition is good. But you could use more guidance on the use of light. So you definitely want to be in this particular session at 9:00. And whatever you do, get with this other instructor at 11:00.” That sort of thing.
I remember an attendee a few years ago that showed me his pictures and almost all of them had the same problem -- perspective distortion. In other words, when he was taking photos he was tilting his camera up to get the entire building in his shot rather than keeping the camera level with the ground. It’s a simple fix. But a lot of the photos he’d taken before he understood that fix were un-saleable. He’d had no idea tilting the camera that way was even a problem.
This year, we’re not going to let anyone leave the workshop with those kinds of issues. I mean, we’re always gearing the schedule at these workshops to what’s hot – to what’s selling and what’s not. And of course, we always cover those important, core fundamentals and include lots of hands-on practice under the watchful eye of our pros. But this year, we’re taking it a step further -- so attendees leave with an even greater shot at success.
If you’re interested in selling your photos to magazines, newspapers, websites, stock agencies, or as fine art, you’re not going to want to miss this event.
I’ll send you more details about it in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, you have a photo assignment. Get out there and take some photos this weekend. If you live near me, you’ll likely have to stay indoors (or otherwise get pictures of massive amounts of snow). But that’s OK.
Just get your three shots and stay tuned. Tomorrow I’m going to send you some advice from Efrain Padro on what it takes to create a good magazine cover photograph.
All the best,
-- Lori

P.S. Remember: just 2 days left to save big on all our small-group photo expeditions. On Sunday at midnight, the prices go up across the board. But until then, you can still take as much as $450 off our trips to Morocco, Paris, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Rome, and Thailand. (I should say, too, that we have payment plans in place for all these trips. So you can save now and then spread out the lower fee over a few months.)
Plus we’re also tossing in an extra bonus for folks who register this week. We’ll send a free copy of How to Get a First Class Seat – for Less – on Most Every Flight You Take (bookstore price: $35.94) to anybody who clicks here to register for an expedition before midnight Sunday.
P.P.S. Big news for our Morocco trip, coming up March 14-18. We’re going to have 2 experts along for our 8 attendees. Pro photographer Rich Wagner decided he wanted to tag along for this trip led by Efrain Padro. So we’re looking at a 4:1 attendee-to-expert ratio. This was already an intimate trip, but now it’s even better. Talk about personalized attention! Click here to grab one of the last remaining seats (and save $400) between now and Sunday at midnight.
