Holiday Travel, Writing, or Photo Tip #9
******************

Dear Reader,

Danny DeVito’s feet are so gross.  Here’s been traveling through Italy all month taking pictures of his feet wherever he goes -- through the canals in Venice, inside the Duomo di Milano...

It’s disgusting if you ask me.  But when it comes to compiling a series of photo tips we can share with you over the holidays, Danny D. might just be on to something...

Holiday Tip #9: Shoot recurring photo themes.

Photo themes
are a fun way to tell a story.  And, if you can come up with one you enjoy shooting, you’ll never run out of things to photograph.  You’ll always be inspired.

Professional photographer Rich Wagner takes photos of friends wherever he goes. Whenever he sees two people having coffee, walking in the park, out fishing, or doing other “friend” activities, he snaps a shot for his collection.

Workshop attendee Bobbie Hamilton takes photos of dogs wherever she goes.  Dogs in Paris, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Hong Kong, New Orleans... Bobbie’s got quite an international collection.  (Coincidentally, another one of our workshop attendees likes to photograph fire hydrants.  We should pair these two attendees together some time.)

Whatever your photo themes, you can shoot for fun or you can try and turn your photos into a photo essay and sell them to a newspaper or magazine (though, I’m not sure you’ll have much luck if you choose to shoot your feet -- especially if your feet look like Danny DeVito’s <yikes>).

The L.A. Times ran a piece about candy from around the world.

And Time Magazine took it a step further and ran a piece called “What the World Eats” with shots from 15 families around the world, with a week’s worth of groceries on the table.
