Morocco Photography Expedition (March 14-18, 2010)

Explore and photograph the colorful spice markets and ancient medinas of Marrakesh on this 5-day photo workshop in Morocco.  Limited to an intimate group of just 8 attendees, you’ll get one-on-one attention from professional photographer Efrain Padro as you capture snake charmers, musicians, and acrobats in the bustling squares… rare spices, pottery wares, rugs in the famous souks, and more. 

Your instructor:

Efrain Padro is best known for his travel, fine art and nature photographs. Based in Santa Fe, NM, Efrain’s photographs have appeared in Outdoor Photographer,Frommer’s Budget Travel, Geographic Expeditions catalogs and other publications.  He is also the author of The Photographer’s Guide to New Mexico and he just recently finished Frommer’s Puerto Rico Day by Day guide (due on the shelf in 2010).

What You’ll Learn:

In addition to exploring colorful and exotic Morocco with a professional photographer by your side, Efrain’s photo sessions include: what it takes to create magazine-quality photographs, how to work with editors and guidebook publishers, where (and how) to get your first assignment, how to work with (and manipulate) your camera for the best possible pictures, and how to create images editors will love.

Activity:

High activity. Most of this workshop will be done out and about on foot. Plan for cobblestone streets and no elevators.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this workshop. It is for people of all skill levels and experience—you’ll find the concepts discussed both accessible and doable.

  • Four and a half days of photography lessons (spent partly in class and partly out and about in Marrakesh)
  • Special presentations and demonstrations by Efrain Padro on how to create better photos and sell them to magazines and newspapers and as fine art
  • Group reviews with Efrain where you’ll learn what it takes to create a magazine-quality photograph
  • Five nights first-class hotel accommodation with breakfast daily
  • Transportation to and from all photo shoots
  • A farewell group dinner on Saturday night at a traditional Moroccan restaurant – yum!

This Expedition Does NOT Include:

  • Your roundtrip international flight to Morocco (Note: When pricing your flight, you may find it cheaper to fly first to Paris or Madrid, spend the night, and then fly the next day to Morocco. Our staff is going to overnight in Madrid.  If you’d like to do the same thing – and possibly save $200-$800 on your flight – we’ll send you details after you register.  Roundtrip flights from Madrid to Marrakesh can be found online for less than $100.  For reference, flights from the U.S. to Paris or Madrid start at $597 right now.)
  • Airport transfers for your international arrival and departure
  • Meals not listed above
  • Equipment — you must bring your own camera and accessories (memory cards, tripod, laptop, etc.)
