A High Selling Stock Photo is Not Always Pretty

Take a guess: Which one of these pictures sells more?

If you guessed #2, you’re right. The picture of the woman blowing her nose sells considerably more...

Both photos were created by the same photographer, with what looks like the same model. But the photo of the sick woman has over 1,000 sales on iStockphoto whereas the prettier, happier picture only has two sales.

A pretty photo is not always saleable and a high selling stock photo is not always pretty. Figuring out what people are buying is the first trick to becoming a well-paid photographer.

And don’t forget to keep sharing your photos from the 21-day challenge on my Facebook page here. To participate, you can take pictures of anything -- yourself, your dog, your breakfast... anything that strikes your fancy. The idea is simply that it takes 21 days to form a habit, so we’re taking pictures of something -- anything -- for 21 straight days until picking up our cameras becomes a habit.

Can’t wait to log-in and see the photos from today!
