August Photo Challenge Theme: Patterns Interrupted

Take a look around you right now. What sort of patterns do you see?

From where I’m sitting I see patterns in a hardwood floor… a pattern in my carpet…a striped pattern on my living room chairs…

Outside I notice the pattern of the brick terrace…the wooden fence… tiled shingles on my neighbor’s garage.

For this month’s challenge, first, take note of these natural and man-made patterns that surround you in your daily life. Then, look even closer to find interruptions in those patterns.

Here are a few examples to get you started:

** Object photos where on object stands out from the rest

** People photos where one person stands out from the crowd

** A pattern interrupted by a change in color

Submissions for August’s Challenge are due by 8:00 a.m. EST on Monday, August 30. You can submit your photos by clicking on the "Enter to Win" tab on our website.

Remember -- only ONE photo per person is allowed in the Challenge.  If you submit multiple photos, they’ll be deleted and you’ll be out of the running.

Our first-place winner will get a $30 gift certificate for the AWAI E-Bookstore, and the first-, second-, and third-place winners will all be entered into the Hall of Fame to compete for a $2,000 Grand Prize in October.

Be sure to check out all of the details and our contest guidelines here.

Get creative, and good luck!

Today, replicas of the Statue of Liberty stand in more than 19 States, 19 countries, and on every continent except Antarctica. If you're traveling to any of these locations in the next year--snap some photos--and submit them below.

If we get enough photos, we'll submit them to Kyle Wagner (travel editor at the Denver Post) as part of a unique photo essay that she's agreed to run.
